Hello all, I have a KTM 450 Exc 2012. The manual states it requires Motorex 10 50 w fully synthetic motor oil. I changed the oil and poured in Motorex 10 50 w fully synthetic "Power" and after realised I should have used "Cross Power".

Posted April 25, 2013. People with 500 exc's are running their top ends with more then 200 hours with only oil changes. Not even bothering does valve checks. Just clean the air filter and change the oil and you'll be fine for at least a 2-3 hundred hours!
2016 350 xcfw here. Never had valves adjusted, never opened the engine and was running great at 319 hours. Only clean air filters and oil changes. Plenty of over-extended oil change intervals have occurred as well. I swear, I could have put another 100 hours on it before my top-end.

You might want to checkout the maintenance schedules used by the KTM RTW guys I on ADVrider’s epic ride threads. That guy goes a long way before complete rebuilds. Also checkout the Rolling Hobo. He’s a respected KTM 500 RTW type rider from Germany with a website that’s a good resource. I like his 30 hour oil change interval.

There are quite few other factors at play here as well when it comes to maintenance intervals. Cam design and how it interacts with the valve train will greatly alter valve service intervals as will material usage and density. The list goes on and on as to why the WR250r has a lower maintenance schedule.
- Ease of maintenance and reliability. A 7-hr oil change interval (which may not be correct or is unnecessarily anal), no matter how easy, is a turn off to me. - Fuel economy: I am concerned with range. 450 owner says 35-40 mpg. Seems kinda meh to me, but he is doing off-road events. - Power with some snap to it.
